Jello Biafra Explores New Orleans Soul with New Live Album
While Jello Biafra is best known as the former frontman of punk legends Dead Kennedys, his latest live album will find him exploring New Orleans soul, R&B and garage rock. The band is billed as Jello Biafra and the New Orleans Raunch and Soul All-Stars, and their concert LP Walk on Jindal’s Splinters will be out on May 12 through Alternative Tentacles.
This album contains 11 songs, and an announcement promises "plenty of trademark Jello banter, and full-on soul/trash/frat/garage gumbo from eleven of New Orleans’ finest, just playing their asses off and having a good time doing it." This was part of the New Orleans Jazz Fest, and the backing band includes a horn section.
See the tracklist below. It consists largely of soul songs from the ’50s and ’60s, and includes a version of the famed "House of the Rising Sun." Apparently, "You can almost feel the grease and voodoo dripping from the walls !"
The LP will be preceded by a 7-inch with the tracks "Fannie Mae" and "Just a Little Bit" on April 14. This single was allegedly "rejected by Record Store Day for being too much to handle."
